Prepare Simple Making Materials
The required making materials are easy to get and low in cost. You only need solid wooden poles, stable non-slip base, high-quality sisal ropes and a little fixing glue. The whole production process does not need professional skills, and can be finished quickly in spare time at home.
Determine Suitable Size
Determine proper size according to your cat’s size. Taller poles suit adult cats for standing scratching, while short compact ones are perfect for kittens. Fix the wooden pole firmly on the base to keep overall stability and avoid shaking during cat scratching.
Standard Sisal Winding Steps
The core process is neat rope winding. Wind sisal ropes tightly and evenly from bottom to top, and fix at intervals with glue to prevent slipping and loosening after long use. Ensure the pole surface is fully covered by sisal to offer comfortable scratching touch.
Guide Cats to Form Good Habits
After finishing production, place the scratching post in cat usual active area. Guide cats to use it with catnip or small toys, let them form fixed scratching habits gradually. Once cats get used to dedicated scratching posts, they will reduce damage to household furniture effectively. This simple DIY method saves pet raising expenditure greatly.
